John R. Wood Properties Further Preserves Area History with Opening of New Southwest Florida Real Estate History Museum
August 22, 2019 (Naples, FL) – John R. Wood Properties announced today the official opening of their new Southwest Florida Real Estate History Museum located at 824 5th Avenue South in Naples, Florida. The professionally planned museum offers free admission and is open to the public Monday through Saturday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, as well as some evening hours depending on foot traffic.
The Southwest Florida Real Estate History Museum provides general historic information on the area as well as details on the evolution of Southwest Florida real estate with emphasis on Naples, Bonita Springs, and Marco Island. It also delves into the key players and originating events that led to some of the area’s major subdivisions, including Port Royal, Aqualane Shores, Old Naples, The Moorings, Park Shore, Hideaway Beach, Pelican Bay, Bonita Bay, and Grey Oaks.
“Our footprint in Southwest Florida isn’t just broad, it’s also very deep,” said Phil Wood, President of John R. Wood Properties. “We’ve been here for over 60 years and our success as a company is very intertwined with the area’s history. That makes this museum and the preservation of that history a very personal thing for us, which we are excited to now share with the public.”
Local historian and former Marco Island real estate executive, Jack Joyce, conceptualized the idea and has played a large collaborative role in bringing the museum to fruition. The JRW firm also worked closely with the Marco Island, Naples, and Bonita Springs Historical Societies as well as the Collier County Museums, and its Director, Amanda Townsend.
The Exhibit Curator, Donna Shelley, guided the design and layout which includes detailed displays of historical information and photos obtained from a variety of sources. Many miscellaneous items were also gathered from JRW archives which included a collection of materials accumulated over the course of the company’s 61 years in the Southwest Florida real estate business.
The Museum is designed to be fun, informative, and an opportunity for everyone, even those who have grown up in the area, to learn more about one of the major economic engines that helped shape Southwest Florida.
